Description

The entire Tschum 2p SOSWA is made from ~300g cotton fabric, additionally it is equipped with snowflaps made from heavy 85g PU coated nylon fabric.

All buckles and fasteners are made from black coated aircraft grade alloy. The webbings and lines are manufactured from polyamide (Nylon). The elastics are manufactured in Germany to work at -35°C and are also spun with polyamide.

It weighs ~3700g (excluding pack sack, pole and stakes), and is suitable for open fire use and the use of our Tschum stoves. The SOSWA is capable of withstanding very high winds and heavy rain and offers a relyable bastion, the snowflaps shed out airflow and improve stability in bad conditions. On the "spiderweb" in the top, lightweight gears can be attached, like for example a lamp, a moskitoe netting or a clothesline.

The Tschum 2P SOSWA comes with two opposite zippers, which allow to detach the tent into halves, each of which can be used as a seperate shelter, and can be transported seperately.

Packing size whole tent: diameter ~ 18cm x lenght ~ 35cm

To protect against ground moisture, the SOSWA can be combined with the tentfloor 2P. As the floor is made as a flat piece, and it is connected with elastics to six aluminium cliphooks inside the tent, it will float slightly above ground when unloaded. In practice, that is an easy way to keep water from running onto- and small things from rolling off the floor.

Pole and pegs are not included. We recomend a pole lenght of 180cm.

Pitching Instructions

Before pitching the tent, please adjust all pegging points to half length.
Connect the tents halves with the zippers,
and connect the spider webbing in the top hole with the shackles or carabiners.

Take two pegging points that are next to eachother, and peg them both to the same point.
This defines the middle of the tent.
By hanging a rope from the branch you want to hang the tent from, you can find exactly the right spot for the tent.

Now take a pegging point that is next to the both that you pegged down to the later center of the tent.
Pull it firmly, and peg it down.

Now go the the exact opposite side, take the pegging point that is next to the other side of the points you pegged down to the tents center.
Pull it firmly and peg it down. You now have three points pegged down. Make sure, that the points are in a straight line.

Now detatch the two pegging points in the center, and pull them gently outward.
It is now relatively easy to find the symmetry before pegging the two points down to their final position.

Do the same on the opposite side, find the symmetry and peg the rest down.

Open one of the zippers, insert the pole into the small pocket of the spider webbing, and push the tent upwards.
Make sure not to apply bending force on the pole, just pushing in the direction of the pole.

Close the zipper again, and make the fine adjustment on the pegging points.
Watch the hole on the top, when the hole looks nice and even, the whole tent is pitched fine.

Attach the top cover.

If you use a centrepole inside the tent, the small triangle of the cover is turned inside out, so that the cover can sit on the spider tip like a hat.

If you use outer poles or hang the tent from a tree, there is a rope running through at the top. Leave the cover flat, lay it around the tip like a cloak, and attach it with the small piece of rope that is sewn to the center.

The elastics should now be attached to the tent body. They run straight down, not sideways. The opening of the top hole can be modified by attaching several elastics to one point. The cover is fully closed by overlapping two segments.

I am a customer from the USA. I have been looking for a 4 season tipi style tent that has the ability to stand up to heavy weather (rain or snow), resistant to sparks from campfires, and allows for the use of a wood stove inside of it. The Tschum 2p SOSWA was my choice. There aren't a lot of reviews on this tent out on the internet to go by. There are some videos on it on YouTube however, they aren't in English. The main fact that sold me on this tent is that it is handmade. The craftsmanship of this tent is phenomenal! If you’re looking for a tent that does not weigh much, this tent might be a little heavy for you. The tent by itself is 3700g (8.1 lbs.). While this may seem a lot for a tent, when you compare it to the synthetic materials used in most tents today, the weight is well worth it in my opinion. The weight is justified when you first look at the tent and touch it for yourself. The fabric (300g cotton) that is used actually feels like canvas, but it's not. All the hand sewn seams and the two zippers that make up the two halves to this tent are flawless. The quality of craftsmanship and the sturdiness of the materials used will most definitely allow this tent to stand up to years of wear and tear. It is worth noting that the tent center-pole and ground stakes do not come with the tent. You will need to purchase them separately. For stability I recommend you purchase the "Detachable tent pole pine 180cm (2P)" with the tent. An Aluminum tent pole is also available, but the stability of the pine wood pole is definitely worth it especially if you plan to use it in harsh weather conditions with high winds involved. For ground stakes, I recommend the added durability of the longer and stronger "Tent nail steel" tent pegs offered from Tschum. Since the tent can be broken down into two halves, I paid Tschum extra and requested two additional cotton fabric bags to be made so that each half of the tent could be transported separately if I wanted to. One cool feature that is explained a lot about this tent is the fact that you can use one half of the tent with the center pole in a classic lean-to shelter design. This would work nicely for one person to lay under and have it facing a campfire for warmth. I am 182cm (72 inches) tall. I can't stand up completely inside this tent, but I can comfortably bend over in it if I needed to get dressed inside of it. In my opinion two people could sleep inside of this tent, but if they have a lot of gear that they want to keep inside with them, it might be a tight fit. The greatest part about buying this tent was Tschum's customer support. Florian, the owner of the company, answered all of my questions regardless of how little they were. I can't speak highly enough about him and the help he gave me. One of the main things to keep in mind when buying one of these tents is the wait time. A lot of people want these tents and they take time to construct because they are handmade. You will need to be patient for your tent to be made and sent to you. Trust me, the wait is worth it! I have already ordered the "Tschum 1P KAMA" tent and I plan to go all out and order the "Tschum 4P KATUN" tent in the near future as well. I want something that I can stand up in, has more room in it, and will also fill the role of a long-term "base camp" style of tent. I highly recommend purchasing one of these tents especially if you’re looking for a solid, handmade, 4 season, tipi style tent!
