The original Jägarstekpanna is made by Stabilotherm in Sweden.
The thick carbon-steel (1,9mm) makes the pan very robust, and it is well suited for the use on an open fire. The performance of this pan is far superior over the thin walled pans that became standard. The handle can be folded to reduce the packing size to 21cm diameter, and it is made hollow, so a matching piece of wood can be used as a handle.
The pan weighs ~630g.
When delivered, the steel is protected by a thin coat of vegetable oil, to prevent rust.
Like every other iron pan, we recommend to spend some effort on proper preparation of the pan before using it for preparing food. Apply a coat of good quality vegetable oil, as thin as possible. Now heat the pan up, until the oil starts smoking, keep on going until the smoke stops. Now let the pan cool for a while, and apply the next very thin coat of oil, and repeat this process for several times. It will create a durable and natural anti-stick coating with the typical black patina to your iron pan, which will get better everytime you use the pan.
Do not remove this patina. It is necessary, protects your pan and and improves the flavour.
